Not-quite-micro-payments

Slashdot has just announced it will a ‘unique subscription system‘. Not per month, per year, but per pages. $5 bucks per 1000 pages.

Now, since Slashdot does get a metric butt-load of views per day (third of a million readers per day), this might work. Slashdot is one of the better communities out there, and a fanatical following, a very, very diverse subject range, and isn’t asking for a lot. But they’re going to start asking. It’ll be interesting. It’s not micropayments, but it’s going to be the closest thing out there. I think it’ll work. Gut feeling. But, boy, have I been wrong before.
