Boot into Unix and fsck your drive

macHOME.com has a nice tip. Booting into UNIX. Hold down Apple + S keys when booting. When done booting, type in fsck -y. That will do a File System Check (fsck) and with the -y switch, automatically correct problems. If you get a message that something was fixed, run it again, until you get a clean record. Then type exit, and the machine will boot into the GUI.
