CNet has a good article on how the new revamped Macromedia site irks customers. Particularly it doesn’t work with Safari or Opera.
Now, this seems retarded. Safari is a Mac browser. One that is well received, and a high percentage of Mac users are using it. Also, a high percentage of Mac users tend to be designers, who use Macromedia products. See the problem?
Some interesting quotes in this article. Al Ramadan, an executive vice president at Macromedia, has said the following:
” Al Ramadan, an executive vice president at Macromedia, said company representatives are scheduled to meet with Apple developers Wednesday to iron out Safari compatibility issues. Macromedia is also working with Opera to support that browser. He noted that the Macromedia site does work-but very slowly-with those browsers, which represent less than 5 percent of traffic to the site.

Safari and Opera aren’t perfectly optimized with Flash--we understand it, we know it and we’re working on it,” Ramadan said. “I expect to get resolution on this in the next couple of weeks.”

Okay. Less than five percent. But they knew that the site had problems with that audience. And then he said that the problem was that the browser wasn’t perfectly optimized with Flash. What in the Hell is he talking about? Flash isn’t a W3C standard. That’s utter crap.
I can’t load or use the Macromedia site myself. Too long to load, or problems with it. I guess it works great under Windows IE. Maybe they should put an “optimized for…” button on the front page.
