Edward Tufte has done an analysis on a Key Slide on Columbia Evidence. Fantastic stuff. Also presented are three reports ("1":http://www.nasa.gov/columbia/COL_debris_boeing_030121.pdf, "2":http://www.nasa.gov/columbia/COL_debris_boeing_030123.pdf, "3":http://www.nasa.gov/columbia/COL_debris_boeing_030124.pdf) These reports have many good features to see. (names, clear linking, tables, graphics with good scale) They also have weaknesses. (incorrect conclusions, assumptions)
My personal favorite part of Tuftes whole analysis is the last part. The deeper analysis. "Does the bureaucracy make the engineers stupid?" OR "Do the engineers make the bureaucracy stupid?" OR "Is it a mutual interplay of bureaucracy and engineering?"
