Info Design, Interface Design, Interaction Design.

MONKEYmedia - REFERENCE: Domains of Design is an excellent breakdown on the various domains of design. Informational Design, Interaction Design, Interface Design. Quite nice. Information Design to me has always meant graphs and charts. In this article, they talk about it being "the organization of the content and the architectural shell that holds it". To me, that's Informational Architecture. Separate from Informational Design. Interface Design to me has meant the User Interface, the buttons, colors, shapes and layout of the object. They talk about the "sensory aspect of usability." How they "manage the meeting of information design and interaction design." I tend to agree with this. Interaction Design to me has always been about presenting actionable items to the user so that they can interact with the object is a hopefully desired way. They talk about Interaction Design being "ways products invite people to act. Its sole concern is How do they do it?". I agree with this, and find the phrase "ways products invite people to act" really appealing. So all in all, an interesting read. I don't agree with their definitions completely, but some interesting concepts. I think we have much the same thoughts on the processes, but just with different labels. But, of course, in this field, labels are very very important.
