Matisse | Picasso Exhibit was amazing.

I went this past weekend and saw the Matisse | Picasso Exhibit, at the MoMA QNS. It was spectactular. I was amazed. I had never really compared or thought of Matisse or Picasso as influences to one another, but after this exhibit, I'll have to rethink all of that. Whomever thought up this exhibit should get a special award. I really dug the pieces that showed the direct influence of one persons style upon the other. Hell, not even influence. Practicing? Stealing? (although, to be fair, Picasso was the creative 'thief', whereas Matisse was more subdued in his influences.) And I never really realized it, but apparantly Picasso wasn't the impulsive, gut-level feeling painter that you would think. He tended to plan out and know exactly what he was going to do. And Matisse, whom you'd figured knew what he was doing and planned out everything in advance, tended to go with the flow of the piece. Since I don't have time at this point to go searching for specific images that I want to talk about, I'll skip it. Suffice it to say that this exhibit kicks royal ass, and you really need to go. Oh, and on the way home, we hit Atlantic City. We played a bit, and for kicks I sat at a slot machine. I won big. ($137 at nickel slots). That was pretty cool. They had to go get an attendant to give me my money.
