Bookplates say something more about the reader than just possession of the book does. One of the projects I have ran into on the net is getting students from first grade [age 5 or 6] on to create their own bookplate. Some of the teens are fantastic artists. Wonderful idea. My first one was purchased when I was 13 and I have used them on all my keeper books since.

It reminds me of the time when books were seen as works of art, as well as a heirloom that indicated both station and power.
