I wrote a little while ago about this mysterious sea blob that washed up on the shores of Chile. Scientists have identified the sea blob as a sperm whale.
Couple of interesting things. One, the sperm whale is the largest of the toothed wales and dives deeper than any other whale. Two, when a sperm whale dies at sea, it rots until it becomes a skeleton suspended in a semi-liquid mass within a bag of skin and blubber. That's what the blob was, the bag of skin and blubber.
Yeah it is. Just think of all the people poking and prodding this thing, thinking it was some sort of new life or something. Instead, it's a de-boned blubber sack of a dead whale. It's pretty much so disgusting it amuses me.

I can't believe it wasn't identified as a known creature immediately. Where did the story about it having one tenticle come from?
