Low-end, Mini iPods are expected to be announced at Macworld Expo on January 6th. 2 and 4GB, starting around $100. That's nice. 2 Gigs, about 400 songs, would be enough for a day to day use, as long as you have a base station to update it with, and get new music. Which is the setup I have. How convienent.
I've held off on the iPod due to the price. But I've been wanting one badly. And now it looks like that excuse will be gone.
Thank you Apple. And curse you if you don't announce this.
UPDATE:
Okay, they did announce the iPod mini. It's smaller. It's cheaper (but not by enough). It's got colors. (which I'm not a fan of). And given the iPod history, the mini's price will go down.
i work in the MP3 section in a large computer store where Ipod's in general hae the biggest sales ive ever seen. as far as their competitors go, Creative? Archos?. nothing compares to the ipod. thats what everyone wants and loves. ipod have definately won over the HIGH END mp3 players. look at the 10GB ipod for instance. £250 for 10GB. compare that to the creative ZEN. (ipod competitor), same price but for 30GB with a carry case. ipod is what people want. so to have a Mini IPOD for around the £100 mark. im sure that very soon unless someone else really surprise me, the only mp3 players that will sell will be IPODS.
I hope that would be the case. I am so in love with my iPod, it's sickening. I'd love to see nothing but iPods sell. That would be just an perfect day.

For details of the MiniPod...i waited for this...but now im not feeling it as much.
hi guys. i just got news from the apple conference in the states that the new MINI iPod will be selling for approx £150. this is £50 less that the current 10GB iPod. differences are that the mini ipod will be "MINI" it will be a smaller ipod with the same features. it also is going to come in all different colours. the way it connects to the computer will be exactly the same as the current iPod im sure with a firewire connector as standard, but will have the abbiolity to be connected wit hthe USB2 Cable ( usb 1 will work just 10 times slower). my thoughts are. buy a 10 GB ipod while there still selling for £199. its £50 more but its gonna be atleast double the capacity and the mini on is so cheap looking. and i'll update with any new news. ;)

I don't know if it comes with the USB cable. Check the apple site or an apple store.
But you will love the iPod. I know I love mine.
