Tog on Panter

Tog reviews Panther. I'm just going to go through some of his observations and add my own. (his observations in bold. ExposÈ is remarkable.. Well duh. That's a no brainer. Of course ExposÈ is remarkable. If I had a pet, he'd love ExposÈ. It's just breath-taking in it's power, beauty, and functionality. If I had to compain at all, it's that I can't find pages I minimized with ExposÈ. I guess that leaves some rom for improvement in version 2. FileVault. Tog likes the FileVault. The real significance of File Vault is that it makes the Mac the first OS that protects privacy, rather than just security.. I don't disagree with this. Privacy is very different than security, and I like my privacy. Information Density. OS X screen objects are as much as seven times bigger than needed. That's dreadful!. He has screenshots supporting this. And he's right. I HATE the width of the icon grid that they shove down your throat with no option to change. Lots of other good points in here. And it goes on. And on. It's a very good, well-written review of Panther. Worth a read.

We've actually been discussing Tog and this article on Well recently; my take-away is that he's made huge contributions in the past, but his asktog work comes off as the rantings of a crack who's pissed off that his interface changed. His tips for improving OS X, for example, boil down to downloading half a dozen shareware hacks to make it mimic OS 9.

In any case, I reckon I'm just saying "opposing views exist."

I tend to agree with you for the most part about Tog. But some of this viewpoints, particularly with the Dock, I agree with.

On a side note, he was the absolute worst speaker I think I've ever seen. Just dreadful. Defintely came across as a 'crack'.
