The new Amazon.com Plog is an interesting experiment at personalization. I wouldn't call it a blog at all. Let me start this by saying how much I hate the name Plog. Hate it.
It's not being written by someone. It's pulling together by the Amazon Personalization Engine, just in a new layout. This is a new template for their dynamic personalization system.
I didn't like the old one, and this does seem easier on the eyes. So in that regard it is good. They're just jumping on the bandwagon to (ab)use the word 'blog'. It's the new magic bullet apparantly.
They're Amazon for goodness sake. They should be above this. Their site is a model, THE model, for online success. A9 was a great effort from them, new and different. Speaking of A9, is there a reason we don't see that tied into the Amazon site?
Anyways, about the personalized page itself. It's MUCH easier on the eyes. They finally provided a sense of importance to the content, in terms of content sizing and visual cues. The sidebars are subdued in relation to the center entries on the central items.
A good job, I just wish they choose a better name.
