John Gruber has a good piece on Dashboard vs. Konfabulator. I tended to agree with him before I read this, and after reading this, I'm completely in agreement here.
On a side-note, I'm quite excited about the aspect of Dashboard widgets/gadgets being web parts, with CSS, JavaScript, etc being very, very, very cool.
Todd Dominey was the one who called Dashboard the Apple ActiveX. And indeed, it is the Apple ActiveX ; the difference with the Microsoft one ? It's free, open-source, non-proprietary, properly standardized, accessible to a very broad base of non-professional programmers.
I love it too, although I tend to find the widgets/gadgets do not stick enough to the Apple Aqua/Brushed Metal GUI items. I feel the red stuff and glossy eye candy iss too much.
By the way, your comment previewer rocks, I simply love it.
