8 Quick Ways to Fix Your Search Engine

The latest from Jeff Veen over at Adapative Path is 8 quick ways to fix your search engine. And it's great. It might be one the better articles I've seen come out of there.

Search results do tend to suck, and there is always room for improvement. And his 8 methods seem spot-on ways to help improve it. I feel that the most important one of the whole bunch is #6. “Offer help for zero results”. It's like building an intelligent 404 page for your search.

Hey Tony! Been awhile since I've hit your site... what a surprise! I love all the cool new features and design. Awesome!!

(Woah, except the "thank you for commenting" page is a bit messed up atm.)

Tony

Is it? I'll have to double check that page.

Nice to see you again Eliot. Thanks for the feedback.

Tony

Okay. That was awful.

You see, I use the TypeKey identity to log in, so I never see that pending page. It was awful. Thanks for pointing that out.

I forgot that the pending page was served through the cgi, rather than as a PHP page. That is what broke it.

All fixed now. Thanks again.

Blog-Fu link at the top is b0rked.

What is the URL to subscribe to your main blog's RSS? The RSS link in the HTML goes to your Link-Fu (which is interesting, but not what I was hoping for).

Tony

The about page has a whole listing of the feeds.

What link are you talking about? The link in the navbar?

I'll double-check the feed link in the HTML.

I so need a full-time proofer, double-checker and editor.
