It's all about context.

Adam Greenfield writes about his plans for a redesign. He takes the first step in that redesign process by establishing context. And he does it so very well.

(BTW: I had a much longer post on this, but hit cancel instead of post and it's lost. dammit.)

In his truncated version of establishing context, he asks himself five questions about the goals of the site. And answers them. It's a great way to help himself figure out what he's looking for. Which I haven't done. What I did was decide on a lark that I hated my site. This happened to coincide with the fact that my old host just crapped out on me. So I just went basic.establish context>

I've been unhappy with the site since then. It has sucked. I'd call the site a failure at this point, but I don't have any way to measure success, other than than my own gut feeling. And it's not a good feeling.

So in the next day or so I'll try this from a new perspective, and establish some context myself. And hopefully from there develop a checklist of things to work towards.
