Weather Icons

Given the current trends towards icon collecting, it was only a matter of time before someone collected Weather Icons from various press websites. And this isn’t the only collection of weather icons.

I find these collections somewhat interesting, as they are a standard set of images used to portray a word/event. Much like street signs. But these are all over the place unlike street signs.

I find the animated icons just disturbing and awful. The ones I tend to like are the simplified and basic sets. f2.com, CNN, Daily Telegraph and the BBC seem to have the best sets, in my opnion. (link via novarese)

Icons are a very interesting area. I just read the Da Vinci Code, (if you haven't read it, go get it now, it's great) It is full of references to symbols and icone that I've known all my life but had no idea of their meaning. It is a pretty important area if you're a logo designer, and one that I think is neglected by most designers.

I'm thinking I should devote a section of my design resource site to researching and identifying meaningful symbols for logo design.

This is also a nice free set of weather icons.
