Roger Johansson has a very thorough post on quotations, cites and pull-quotes. It’s quite interesting. Defintely spend some time going through the comments. There are some real insights in there.
The long and short of this article is how to use the q, blockquote and cite elements and then use CSS to style these elements. I’ve covered some of this in the past, but more is always good.
He states that the cite element “commonly used to markup the names of external references”. I thought is was only used to refer to the location where you got a quote from. It seems that I have more options with cite that I thought. Which is a good thing.
