The Golden Section, and Design.

Mark Boulton has a good post on Design and the Divine Proportion. What it boils down to is that instead of just relying on what you feel you should rely upon what you know logically. What underpins that feeling? Rules.

One of those rules, one of the biggies, is the Golden Section. (No, not the Golden Rule. That’s manners.) This rule applies, and you should be aware of it if you design. And if you’re going to break this rule, do it knowingly.

Anyways, I liked this post. Some interesting thoughts that overviews some basic design thoughts. P.S. I dig the comments.

UPDATE: Excellent. This is just part of a sampler/teaser that Mark is writing for Design In Flight that should be published later this year.

Hi Tony,

Thanks for the comments and the summary. It's a bit of a sampler of a larger article i'm writing for Design in Flight that will hopefully be published later this year.

Glad you liked it.

Cheers,
Mark

Nice. I'm looking forward to that article. I think any focus that can be drawn towards more design, and less technical, nowadays is a good thing.
