Ajax is what Adaptive Path calls Asynchronous Javascript + XML. And boy howdy is it powerful. Google Suggest and Google Maps are two very high-profile implmentations of this type of application.
Ajax really isn’t an application, methodology, technology etc. It’s several things, all working together.
This article by Jesse James Garrett is so worthwhile. The charts, graphics and writeup illustrate the flow of data nicely. A very good article.
