Inspired by Shuan Inman’s work that he saw at the fantastic site More, Colley decided to try out his hand at working the same effect. The effect? A fade-out at the bottom of an overflow: auto; block, preventing a harsh deliniation of cut-off text.
A very nice effect with a minimal amount of work.
This example doesn’t work with IE, as it uses PNGs. But it does serve up an alternate stylesheet to hide the PNG from IE, so you don’t bust it up and see a giant gross block. You might want to consider the filter: alpha(opacity=NUM); declaration in your IE style sheet if you set this up, that might help mimic this effect for IE, depending on the size of the fade you have.
