TRICARE SMART E-Commerce Site
The TRICARE Marketing Organization (TMO) had a solution to serving all of TRICARE. TRICARE is the largest health-care provider in the world, serving all of our troops. By creating an online store for the world-wide TRICARE sites to visit and order information, download material, and share documentation, we would be improving upon the current system untold amounts.
I worked closely with the TMO main offices, and over the course of a month we had mapped out a full set of functional requirements. Those requirements were then mapped out into an application design and database design that would meet those requirements, and have the ability to accomodate future growth in predefined areas. ColdFusion and SQL was the application and database.
The design incorporated the standard TRICARE navigational bar, but after working closely with the TRICARE web board, we were able to shift that bar to the footer area, as having it in the top part of the site shifted the focus of the user a bit too much.
I do not have many screen shots of the TMO site, but the view here is of the Data Repository Section.
The primary and secondary navigation was created as a sidebar element, allowing for future growth to include many sub-navigational items and providing a clear sense of location.
Tertiary navigation was posted across the top of each page, right underneath a bar clearly showing sectional POCs
The data repository was a dynamic content delivery system. All the information was stored in a database. The information, once displayed, could be customized in a variety of ways.
The site had the following sections to it:
- Data Repository
- Online Store
- Discussion Forum
- Online Reporting
- Instructional Material (online learning)
- High level overview
